Port Dalhousie · Lake Ontario fishing

Fishing Lake Ontario out of Port Dalhousie.

A genuinely-useful guide to salmon and trout fishing on Lake Ontario near St. Catharines. When to go, what the fish are doing, what a charter costs, and what to bring. Updated for 2026.

Why Port Dalhousie for Lake Ontario fishing?

Port Dalhousie sits at the mouth of Twelve Mile Creek on the south shore of Lake Ontario, in the north end of St. Catharines. It is a working harbour with a long fishing history and quick access to the south-shore water where salmon and trout hold. The two historic lighthouses at the end of the pier have guided boats in here for well over a century.

The south-shore trench off Port Dalhousie is prime Chinook water when the kings stack in cold, deep water from July through October. Anglers come from across Niagara and beyond for a Lake Ontario salmon trip, and Port Dalhousie is one of the more accessible launch points on the western end of the lake.

A note on how this guide works

This guide is published and kept current by Living Websites, a Niagara-based web-services company. The information here is drawn from publicly available species data, Ontario MNR guidelines, and general Niagara charter market knowledge. It is not affiliated with any specific charter operator, and price ranges are illustrative, not quotes.

Before booking any charter, confirm the operator holds current Ontario MNR credentials, and that you have a valid Ontario fishing licence if you are between 18 and 64. See what to expect for licence details.

Published and kept current by Living Websites

This guide keeps itself current.

It does that because it is a living website. That is what Living Websites builds for Niagara businesses: a site that stays current, reads who is visiting, and reacts to what is happening now. If you run a Niagara business and your website is stale, that is what we fix.
