Living Websites

SEO, as one of our specialties

Search engine optimization is not a service bolted on top of a Living Websites build. It is a standing mechanism baked into how the site runs: kept visible to search engines, kept honest about what it publishes, and measured against real evidence instead of a promise. This page names that mechanism plainly, what actually runs today, what it does not yet do, and the real proof behind each claim.

2 standing search-visibility mechanisms and 3 honesty gates back this specialty, all live and running on this site today.

The honesty gates behind the content

Search-visibility work is only worth having if the content behind it is not junk. Every page on this site, including this one, runs through the same three checks before it ships. The de-AI gate fails a page that carries the typographic and lexical tells of machine-drafted writing. The no-fabricate gate fails a page that states a number nobody sourced. The name-collision gate checks a proposed business or brand name against Canada's own trademark register before it ships, so a client is never handed a name with a collision risk baked in. All three are read-only, deterministic, and open for you to run yourself; see the full set on Tools.

The proof, not just the promise

We do not ask a visitor to take the search-visibility claim on faith. This site is run as a living website at full scope, and the outcomes are dated and public. A Niagara fishing guide this site wrote on its own reached the first page of Google within 14 days, on a domain that was itself two weeks old, confirmed against Google Search Console on June 22, 2026. As of July 30, 2026, 123 of our 134 live pages were confirmed indexed by Google, a 92 percent rate, checked with the GSC URL Inspection API across the full sitemap. Both numbers, and every dated milestone since, are published on Proof, our own live evidence wall, updated on a real cadence rather than asserted once and left to go stale.

Where SEO stops and AI visibility starts

Classic search ranking and getting mentioned by an AI assistant are related but genuinely different problems. A page can sit at the top of Google and still never get cited when someone asks ChatGPT the same question, which is the entire argument of Does ChatGPT even mention your business?, one of our own live articles on the gap. This page is scoped to the classic search-ranking side of that split: technical visibility, indexation, and genuinely useful content search engines can crawl and trust.

This is the mechanism behind the search-visibility claim, not an assertion of it. Point it at your own business and it runs the same way.

FAQ

Does SEO cost extra on top of a living website?

No. Search Console and Bing registration, sitemap submission, IndexNow pings, and Google Business Profile identity wiring run as a standing mechanism behind every Living Websites build, not a separate line item you add on.

How is this different from paying an SEO agency?

An agency does this category of ongoing work by hand, on a retainer: technical upkeep plus a steady supply of genuinely useful content. A living website performs the same category of ongoing work as part of how it runs. The longer version of that comparison, including where a dedicated agency still makes sense, is on SEO in Niagara.

What stops this content from turning into search spam?

Two deterministic checks, run on every page before it ships: the de-AI gate rejects the typographic and lexical tells of machine-drafted writing, and the no-fabricate gate rejects any stated number that cannot be traced to a cited source. Both are open source, so the check itself is something you can read, not something you have to trust.

Is SEO the same as showing up in ChatGPT or other AI answers?

No. A page can rank first on Google and still never be mentioned by an AI assistant, a separate specialty with its own mechanism, including the AI-citation probe we run daily. This page covers the classic search-ranking side; see Does ChatGPT even mention your business? for the AI-answers side.
