Accessibility
This page says how accessible livingwebsites.ca is today, what we build to, the gaps we know about, and how to reach a person if something on the site is in your way.
The standard we build to
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at Level AA. That is the technical standard Ontario's accessibility law (the AODA, through O. Reg. 191/11) sets for designated public-sector organizations and for private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees. Living Websites is a small private company and is not in either group, so this is our own house standard, chosen because it is the right floor for a site that exists to be read, and not a claim that the law requires it of us.
What that means on this site
- Text and its background meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 for normal text and 3 to 1 for large text.
- Every image that carries meaning has a text alternative; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Headings are in order, one main heading per page, so a page can be read by its outline.
- Every form field has a visible label, and every error names the field and what to fix.
- Everything you can do with a mouse you can do with a keyboard, and the element in focus is always visible.
- Motion is small and never the only signal that something changed; if your device asks for reduced motion, the site honours it.
- The page language is declared so assistive technology reads it correctly.
Gaps we know about
We check the site with our own automated scan and by hand. The scan run on September 2, 2026 found these gaps on the current design, listed here so you are not surprised by them:
- On some pages, a gold accent colour is used for short text such as "Read the guide" links and small labels. Against the page background it measures about 3 to 1, below the 4.5 to 1 we hold ourselves to for text at that size. The redesign in progress replaces that colour with one that passes; until then the text is still readable, but we know it is short of the standard.
- The pricing page has a heading that skips a level (a third-level heading directly under the main heading), which makes its outline read oddly in a screen reader.
- The site has not yet had a full manual review with a screen reader; that review is scheduled as part of the redesign, and this page will say when it has happened.
Pages served from our own guides and articles are re-checked every time they are rebuilt; when a gap is fixed, it comes off this list.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, tell us and we will fix it or give you the information another way. Email hello@livingwebsites.ca or call 289-402-8169. Say which page and what happened; a screenshot helps but is not required. A real person reads every message.
About this statement
This statement covers livingwebsites.ca and the pages we build and serve on it. It does not cover third-party sites we link to. It was written on September 2, 2026 and is updated when the site's accessibility changes, not on a calendar. Our privacy policy and terms of service are separate pages.
